Let's learn how AI tools can help identify errors, suggest corrections, expand your vocabulary, and improve your written and spoken communication.

Exercises

1) Start by typing a text of your choice (a text message, an email, a journal entry, etc.) in your target language in any word processor/app/software. It doesn't have to be long!

2) Open Gemini: https://gemini.google.com/

3) Try the following prompt. "The following text is part of my writing practice. I am a [LANGUAGE] learner with [describe your level or experience with the language*]. Please assess the following text and give me feedback on what I can improve to become a better writer in [LANGUAGE]." 

*E.g. "I've got significant experience on a French degree, but I have not practiced writing for 15 years."

4) To compare how different AI chatbots perform, open ChatGPT: https://chatgpt.com/auth/login.

5) Insert the same prompt as before and compare the results you get.

6) Now, let's use ChatGPT to give you feedback on your text, without improving the text: "Here is an improved version I wrote. Don't give me an improved version of the text yet. Please give me specific points I can improve and let me try rewriting it first." 

7) You can also ask AI for feedback before sending a quick text message in our target language.

"Here is a message I need to send to [CONTACT]. Please check it and let me write an improved version after your feedback. [PASTE/TYPE MESSAGE]."

8) Want AI to review a spoken text you have? Open Turboscribe and record yourself by clicking the little microphone icon and choosing your language. Then, download the TXT file and copy the text (or use the ChatGPT button on Turboscribe to save yourself the copying and pasting).

9) From TurboScribe or ChatGPT, try this prompt: "I am a/an [LANGUAGE]-language learner + [tell it why you are practicing]. The following text is a transcript of my speaking practice. Please check the text to assess my speaking skills."

For example: "I am a Welsh language learner preparing for the B2 speaking and writing exam. The following text is a transcript of my speaking practice. Using the key rubrics needed for B2 Speaking, please check the text to assess my speaking skills."

10) Now ask ChatGPT to help you improve the text: "Give me the most important five points to improve in terms of phrases I can work on."

11) Based on the feedback AI gave you, recording a second version of your audio. Then, use this prompt: "Here is my second attempt. It is a transcript of my speech. Please assess the skills and give me feedback about how I improved and any areas that have become weaker or may still need work."
