The Extractor – Get key information in a flash ⚡️

Texts and videos are packed with information – from vocabulary to names and a ton of grammatical information. Want to pull out all that juicy information and use it for language learning and practice? Here's how!

Exercises

1) Open Copilot.

2) Open an article or text of your choice.

3) Open your Copilot AI sidebar. Pick your Mode of choice (more creative, more precise, or more balanced)and in the drop-down menu, select "using this page."

4) Start with a simple prompt. " Extract [state what you want here] listed in this article. E.g. "Extract all of the names of foods listed in this article."

💡 You can also tell Copilot which language to respond in. "Give me the list in [LANGUAGE]"

5) Ask Copilot for a bilingual table. "Give me the equivalents of these words in [TARGET LANGUAGE], and present the results as a table with [SOURCE LANGUAGE] and [TARGET LANGUAGE]."

6) You can use the same method to extract information - and not just vocabulary - from an article. You can also ask the AI to give you further information on what it has extracted. E.g. "Extract the names of all the people listed in this article, tell me about them in one sentence"

7) Got a complicated document? Why not ask AI to extract all the acronyms and tell you what they stand for?

8) Now, try asking Copilot to give you the terms for a specific domain. "Give me a list of all the [TOPIC] terms used in this document." E.g. "Give me a list of 20 legal terms used in this document and their equivalents in English."

9) Ask for the results to be presented in a bilingual table.

10) Now it's time to try this out with a YouTube video! Pick a video of your choice and in the Copilot side bar, select "this video" in the drop-down menu. Ask the AI to extract the information you want from the video. E.g. "Tell me what ten things I should do in Sicily in a week according to this video. Answer in [YOUR LEVEL] [LANGUAGE]".

11) Finally, why not try using this approach for grammar? E.g., "Extract all the [WORD TYPE, such as verbs] from this video, create a four-column table with the root form of the verb, the way they're used in the video, the tense they're in, and the sentence they appear in in the video."
